flatforms: i'm just not that into you

It seems like every blog, e-zine and magazine is telling me to go buy a pair of flatforms this season. And to that I say, NO. Consider this my rebellion against the fashion machine.

Maybe it's because I grew up in the Spice Girls generation and seeing a pair of flatforms reminds me of Baby Spice's monster platforms and Geri Halliwell's Union Jacks (her shoes, perverts).

I know, this season's flatform platform isn't as extreme but now that the association has been made, I'm just not willing to go back there. And I bet Victoria Beckham isn't either.

How do you feel about the Flatform trend? Yay or nay?

  1. NAY. It totally reminds me of Spice Girls and I don't understand how people haven't recognized that (or maybe they're just in denial for the sake of following a trend...)!

    Have a great weekend Niki!

  3. Definately a NAY! They're hideous. They remind me of my mom's work shoes when I was 5. Flatforms seem so unflattering and uncomfortable to walk in. However, certain people can pull them off (models). Love the relation you made to Spice Girls. I completely forgot they used to wear them. Hahaha, good memories. I still have the video on VHS. :)

  4. depends on which ones, i like the 2nd and 3rd on the top row, and the 3rd on the bottom row. but i feel like walking in these would be so awkward haha

  6. It confuses me. I love the look of wedges, like Fendi's satin, leather, and wood ones, but the rubber soled even platforms drive me crazy! and yes, remind me of those Spice Girls shoes, which are even worse that I remember.

  7. I actually really like them LOL. I think it's due to my slight obsession with the Spice Girls back in the day :P

  8. a big fat NAY. pretty sure these went out of style a long time ago. next they'll be bringing back skate shoes paired with flared jeans. don't even get me started!

  9. i totally agree! i don't think i can do this.... plus wheres the comfort? i feel like my foot would just be on a flat plank of wood or something. no thanks!

  11. Kind of remind me of Shape-ups? Or at least I think that's how I'd feel in them. Awkward and tall, but not tall enough. Definitely a nay on the flatforms!

p.s. I had a pair of black and white platforms that were 'spice girls for kids' shoes... definitely not ready to go back there, either!

  14. I absolutely agree! Seeing those shoes takes me back to my awkward 13-year-old self...yikes. I hope this fad dies fast... -a

  15. Oh gawd you just put an image to express perfectly my instinctual dislike of this trend! They seem like orthopedic shoes to me and really wearing a trend I loved when I was a pre-teen just makes me feel old. Nay!

  16. Yeah I'm NOT a fan of these either. They just look weird to me now I kinda liked them when the spics girls use to wear them though I guess that's because I was 7 and a HUGE spice girl fan.

  19. I am so glad to hear I am not the only one boycotting this trend. There is nothing cute or flattering about this look.

  20. yeah i'm pretty anti on this trend. i feel like gwen stefani probably rocked these pretty hard while in no doubt. i'm kinda bummed on fashion in general lately. i can't find anything i want to buy for myself....especially in the hunt for "guest of wedding" dresses that are not over $400 otherwise i'd have no problem.

  21. I don't know if I like these flatforms..i'm al for a wedge or a higher platform with bells or wide legged pants but the FLATNESS of these are a bit ugly. Then again, maybe it can be pulled off...i know i'm fence sitting here

  22. THANK YOU! I'm so happy you've blogged about this.. Flatforms is just one trend I'll probably NEVER get behind. Talk about hooves for feet.

  23. I'm really not a big fan. They seem so clunky and heavy.

  24. I say a definite nay!! They dredge up memories of the awful plaform foam flip flops people used to wear! I'm loving platform wedges, but the straight out flatform is one of those trends that I will not be participating in!
