But I don't know how to use it yet. Can anyone local recommend a good photography class? If so, please advise in the comment section below. You can also e-mail me, tweet me, facebook me, or formspring me (I'm all over the internetz). It's much appreciated, thank you!

  1. Woah! Congrats on your new camera! :) What kind of camera is it? I absolutely love the photograph of your closet (the heart top and your Marc Jacob shoes). Your dog is adorable!

I'd say intro to photography (most colleges offer it as a class) is the most helpful class. A lot of my friends took that class before deciding on whether or not they were ready to major in digital photography. ^.^

  6. Hey Niki! I recommend Focal Point in West Point Grey! I took some photography classes at my high school and then decided to spring for some formal teaching one summer and did not regret it. They do a wide variety of styles and you learn a LOT aside from the basic things like shutter speed and aperture and focal length etc. I remember doing a shoot in studio with a model and also doing night photography in Granville island. If you are feeling adventurous, I recommend learning the art by using a manual camera-- it's such a dying art but IMO the photographers who know how to work it are heaps and bounds ahead of those who don't!

Excited to see what you decide to do!

  19. Omg your dog is cute...I have a golden lab and he's basically the subject of all my pictures.

I'm not sure of a class, but my boyfriend (who takes all my outfit shots for my blog) taught himself looking up tips on the internet and practicing! It's always good to just mess around and figure out techniques on your own.

  22. Also don't think you need lessons... I took mine at Journalism school over 5 years ago and I don't remember a thing. YET taking photographs (of bands and concerts) is part of my job. Just wing it and you'll learn!

I took a few classes at Focal Point way back when too, and I loved it as well! Highly recommend them, small classes, lots of learning! Good luck and have fun!
